Healing Trauma, Building Connections: Your Path to Well-being
Hi, I’m Jeanne Scala Bauer. As a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 30 years of experience, I’m here to offer a gentle, warm, and highly effective approach to help you, your children, or your family heal and thrive.
My journey in the mental health field began over three decades ago, and I quickly found my calling in helping individuals heal from trauma. I believe that true healing begins with connection, understanding, and acceptance. That’s why building a strong, trusting relationship with you is at the heart of my practice.
My Specialized Focus: Healing Trauma
I’m highly skilled in helping clients navigate and heal from the profound impact of trauma. My approach integrates brief, goal-oriented treatment to alleviate severe symptoms, drawing on specialized training in effective techniques. I understand that trauma can manifest in many ways, and I’m dedicated to helping you find relief and reclaim your sense of safety.
Unique Expertise in Birth Trauma:
I hold a particular passion and over 20 years of experience in supporting women who have experienced:
- HELLP syndrome
- Emergency C-sections
- Experiences of pain or lack of epidural relief during C-sections or vaginal births that were unexpected.
I understand the unique pain and lasting impact these experiences can have, and I offer a safe space to process, grieve, and heal.
Infertility-Related Trauma & Grief:
The journey of infertility can bring profound emotional pain and grief. I am here to support you through the trauma, loss, and difficult emotions often associated with this challenging path.
Supporting Adoptive Families
As an adoptive mom myself, I have a deeply personal understanding of the unique dynamics and challenges within adoptive families. I offer comprehensive support, utilizing a wide range of interventions to help families feel more connected and to heal from past wounds. These wounds can often present as emotional and behavioral issues in children. I approach this work through an attachment lens, helping families better understand how early relationships profoundly impact current well-being and how to build stronger, more secure bonds.
How I Can Help You and Your Loved Ones
At the Center for Counseling and Education (CFCE), I work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples, addressing a wide range of concerns including:
- Relationship Challenges: Improving communication, fostering understanding, and strengthening bonds.
- Anxiety & OCD: Developing effective strategies to manage overwhelming worry, fears, and obsessive-compulsive patterns.
- Depression: Providing pathways to understanding and managing depressive symptoms.
- Grief: Supporting you through various forms of loss and finding healthy ways to cope.
- Perinatal Mental Health: Addressing emotional well-being during and after pregnancy, beyond specific birth trauma.
My Integrative Approach to Healing
My extensive 30-year career has allowed me to build a comprehensive “toolbox” of evidence-based philosophies and techniques. I integrate these approaches to provide highly personalized and effective care:
- Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR): A powerful therapy for processing traumatic memories and reducing their emotional impact.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helping you identify and gently shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors.
- Exposure Response Prevention (ERP): A specialized and highly effective technique for treating OCD and anxiety disorders.
- Play Therapy: I utilize play therapy, recognizing that for children, play is their primary mode for expressing thoughts and navigating emotions.
- Narrative Therapy: Helping you explore and rewrite your personal story in a way that promotes healing and empowerment.
- Mindfulness: Integrating techniques to help you stay grounded, present, and build emotional resilience.
- Neurobiology: Utilizing an understanding of how the brain processes experiences to inform our work.
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Focusing on strengthening emotional bonds and improving communication, especially within couples.
I’m committed to continually advancing my skills as a therapist, regularly participating in training to ensure you receive the most current and effective care.
My Journey & Commitment
I received my Master of Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Early in my career, working in the prison system, I quickly realized my true calling was in helping victims of trauma. This led me to extensively treat clients who experienced the trauma of 9/11. Through continued training and hands-on experience, my expertise has deepened in supporting individuals and families negatively impacted by abuse, neglect, abandonment, and loss. I am committed to utilizing the most current evidence-based practices to support your well-being.
