Susan Speas
Susan Speas, MA, LAC is passionate about making meaningful connections with clients, providing support and assurance to them as they strive to feel better, understand themselves more, and/or seek something new or different for themselves. Susan honors each client and tunes into the unique set of strengths, values, interests, goals, and timelines of each individual. Susan is guided by a humanistic, client-centered, and holistic therapeutic approach and inspired by both mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral theories into her practice.
Susan comes to us with over twenty years of school counseling experience working primarily with adolescents who experience challenges such as: anxiety & depression; past trauma; HIB events; learning differences; school avoidance; LGBTQ+ issues; relationships; family life & divorce; and substance use. Susan looks forward to continued work with teens in a setting that offers extended time and space for social and emotional progress and development of the therapeutic relationship. Susan is equally eager to
transfer her established skill set and knowledge base to counsel children, their families, and adults as well.
Susan graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in English and worked as a teacher for several years before earning a Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services from Rowan University in 2002. Susan has been a school counselor ever since working with both middle schoolers, high school students, and their families. Susan recently returned to school and completed an Ed.S. degree in Counseling Services at Rider University in 2023 so that she could expand upon her school counseling work and work as a licensed therapist in a clinical setting. Susan also worked for fifteen years as a part-time academic advisor at Rowan College at Burlington County and helped college students of all ages and backgrounds with their academic planning, goal setting, career exploration, and life pursuits.
In her downtime, Susan enjoys the outdoors, Netflix shows, Wordle, books, puzzles, dining out, road trips, and more than anything, spending time with her family and friends.
